CLOSING IN ON 4K
Transfer Inna Balkyo is closing in on 4,000 career assists as she currently sits at 3,812. She’s finished with 50 or more assists six different times in her career, including twice this season with an OSU-high of 53 in the last match
against Cal. Balkyo would join just 15 other active D1 athletes with over 4,000 helpers in their careers. The setter has a long resume that includes 3,432 assists (8.84 per set) over three years at Rutgers. Balyko was twice named
the Big Ten Setter of the Week during the 2020-21 spring season and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2019, 2020).
Mychael Vernon is 3rd in the PAC-12 through the opening weekend of conference play with 34 kills last weekend. Vernon led OSU with 17 kills in each match last week. She leads the Beavs with 142 kills on the season to
this point and has posted double-digit kills in nine of her 11 matches played.
IZZI, IZZI, IZZI
Izzi Szulczewski has recorded either a triple-double or double-double in the Beavs last six matches. She is the only player in the PAC-12 to record a triple-double this season and one of 10 student-athletes in the country with
multiple. Szulczewski recorded a career-high 13 kills in the last match against Cal to go along with 11 digs.
The Beavers lead the PAC-12 in team digs with 748 and in digs per set at 15.58. In 2021, the Beavers finished fourth in the Pac-12 with 14.20 digs per set, led by then-senior Grace Massey (4.40 d/set). OSU has looked towards sophomore Ryan White, who has finished the last three matches with 17 or more digs, including a career-high 22 in the victory at Tulane. The Richland, Wash. native leads the Beavs with 145 digs for an average of 3.30 digs per set. She is joined by Izzi Szulczewski (128), Emma Villaluz (108) and Inna Balkyo (103) as athletes with 100 or more digs on the season thus far.
