Nevada-Oregon State baseball series to be played at Greater Nevada Field

The Nevada baseball team is hitting the minor leagues. A minor-league stadium, at least.

The Wolf Pack’s two-game series with Pac-12 power Oregon State will be played at Greater Nevada Field, according to a source familiar with the schedule. Neither Nevada nor the Aces have officially announced the move.

The Wolf Pack will host Oregon State on March 29 and 30, with the opener being played at 5 p.m. and the second game at 1 p.m. Those games will be waged at the home of the Reno Aces, which open its home schedule April 12.

Oregon State has one of the nation’s top college baseball programs, winning NCAA titles in 2006, 2007 and 2018. It has reached four straight NCAA tournaments and appeared in 14 of the last 16 NCAA Regionals, advancing to six College World Series since 2005.

Nevada last hosted Oregon State during the 2019 season when the Wolf Pack scored back-to-back walk-off wins against the Beavers, who entered the series ranked No. 2 in the nation. Nevada won the first game 8-7 in 12 innings and the second one 7-6 in 10 innings after plating two runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.

Oregon State and Nevada both made last year’s NCAA Tournament, with the Beavers going 37-24 overall and 16-14 in the Pac-12 (fifth place) before making it to the championship game of the Fort Worth Regional. Oregon State is 4-0 this season, including two routs of Mountain West school New Mexico (wins of 21-1 and 13-3). The Beavers are ranked 14th in this week’s rankings.

The Wolf Pack has played at Greater Nevada Field before as part of an exhibition fundraiser with the Reno Aces, most recently doing so in 2019. The Oregon State series will mark Nevada’s first regular-season games at Greater Nevada Field, which opened in 2009 when the Triple-A Aces moved to town from Tucson, Ariz.

Seating is expected to be general admission at $12 per ticket. The nine-inning games will be played under standard college baseball rules with metal bats.

Reno Aces to hold free Fan Fest

The Aces will host a free Fan Fest at Greater Nevada Field on March 19 running from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The family-friendly day will feature special activities, food and beverage options and merchandise discounts at the Biggest Little Team Shop.

The event includes 30-minute VIP Ballpark Tours at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the top of Section 104; inflatables and activities for kids; free raffle entry for a chance to win Aces prize packs, tickets and more; Select-Your-Seat for the 2022 season; and Archie’s Kids Club open enrollment. New concession options will also be open and available.

“We are so excited to kick off 2022 with this event to welcome Aces fans back to Greater Nevada Field for a sneak preview of things to come during the season,” Reno Aces president Eric Edelstein said in a news release. “Fan Fest will give our fans a unique opportunity, unlike in years’ before, to see what’s to come at the stadium before Opening Day.”
