For the first time anyone can remember, the Miami Hurricanes didn’t sign a single player on national signing day and it wasn’t an issue at all.
With 25 players signed during the early signing period, Miami’s Class of 2023 still finishes in the top 10 of the 247Sports composite rankings and at the top of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The lack of news means David Wilson and Susan Miller Degnan, the Hurricanes beat writer for the Miami Herald, don’t spend too much time talking recruiting on this episode of the Eye on the U podcast. Instead, it’s time to dive into the Hurricanes’ search for an offensive coordinator.
Last Friday, Miami fired Josh Gattis after just one season as the offensive coordinator in Coral Gables. It was a major failure for Mario Cristobal, but the coach will have a chance to fix his mistake by making a smarter hire this year.
What should the Hurricanes be looking for in a new OC? Wilson and Degnan discuss why it’s so important to have the coordinator on the same page as the quarterbacks coach, and how Cristobal might be able to balance his own preferences with a style we’ve seen work in South Florida.
